Lucia Urns strives to design and make high quality urns that bring beauty and peace to families during a very difficult time of loss. My 35 years experience as a potter shows in the quality and craftsmanship of each piece that I create.
I have been a potter since 1985 and a maker of urns since 2005. All of the urns that I make are made solely by my hands, either on the potters wheel or hand-built, one at a time. I choose to make intentional, “slow pottery” using no molds, or decals. I believe that handmade work is important in our fast paced digital world. The marks on the clay, the glaze variations, the slight size differences from piece to piece are all reminders that it was made by hand. It connects you, the receiver of this work, to me the maker.
For many years customers would ask me if I made urns. Over and over I heard how dismal the choices were out there for warm, personal, artist made urns. So in 2005 I began making cremation urns in addition to my functional line of pottery.
In 2009 I began to create my “Green” biodegradable urns. This shop features both high fired porcelain and stoneware urns, and biodegradable urns made from a mixture of clay and cellulose fiber.
I am committed to providing eco-friendly options for honoring the memory of loved ones. I am passionate about making biodegradable urns that not only serve as a beautiful vessel for cremated remains but also help to lighten our carbon footprint on the earth. Using sustainable and non-toxic materials, I meticulously design urns that are fully biodegradable, ensuring a minimal impact on the environment. I strive to create urns that gracefully return to the earth, allowing the natural cycle of life to continue. Embracing both beauty and sustainability, my biodegradable urns are a heartfelt way to celebrate a life well-lived while also caring for our planet.
