Biodegradable Blue Ripple Urn, Encaustic Painted, Individual Size
Biodegradable Blue Ripple Urn, Encaustic Painted, Individual Size
The Blue Ripple urn reminds me of the reflections on a lake. Lily pads and gentle ripples come to mind.
Each urn is truly one of a kind, therefore quite individual. The urn that is pictured here is the exact urn you will receive.
This is an Encaustic Painted Biodegradable urn, which measures 10.5″H x 7″W, and will hold 220 cubic inches.**
The encaustic method of painting involves melting beeswax and color pigment in layers, then using tools to scrape away, make marks and melt again. The resulting surface can be heavily textured or have a completely smooth surface.
Biodegradable Clay Urns are made from recycled clay blended thoroughly with recycled paper pulp. This combination of clay and paper pulp make for an extremely strong bond which acts like woven material when the clay is wet. As the fiber and clay dry it becomes extremely hard and durable. The urn is not fired in a kiln, therefore can degrade naturally when it is put into a body of water. This also allows me to decorate the urn quite differently than if the urn were fired in a kiln and glazed.
I am categorizing these urns biodegradable, because like my 100% biodegradable urns they are not fired in a kiln. The paper and clay part of these urns will break down in water, and in the earth. The encaustic painted surface application of beeswax and damar resin (tree sap) are not totally water soluble, therefore these urns should not be used for burial at sea. My intention for these urns is for natural earth burial, or to keep as a treasured memory for your home.
“Green Burial” goes hand in hand with a life well lived on this earth. The good earth has given us so much; why not give ourselves back to the earth “naturally”.
** One cubic inch = One pound of live weight. You may seal the lid with a natural paper glue.
