New Version of the Blue Galaxy Urn
Deep Blue Galaxy Urn.
Sometimes a potter needs to change glazes. Even if that particular glaze is a fan favorite. This is the third iteration of the galaxy urns in the 15 years that I’ve been making them. When I first made them they were greenish brown on the bottoms to blue/green star like on the top half. About 6 years ago I changed them to just a little greenish on the bottom to all blue starry on top. It seems that however I changed my glaze combos I would still get about a 40% loss, due to the many layers of glaze I apply. I never really knew what was going to come out of the kiln. So a totally new glaze combo was long overdue. I’ve been glaze testing and experimenting since the beginning of Covid19 lockdown in March. I’m happy with this deep blue so far! It’s four layers of glazes, the last of which is sprayed. It’s also an extremely slow cool down in the kiln to achieve a little crystal like effect.
I think it’s a really special glaze effect I am getting with this combination of glazes. I am sure it is destined to become a new customer favorite. It’s available now on my website here.
